Honor the heroes of law enforcement
The Police Unity Tour was founded in 1997 by a group of 18 New Jersey law enforcement officers who boldly rode their bicycles from Florham Park New Jersey to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. to pay tribute to their fallen Colleagues. The riders sought to raise awareness and funds for the Memorial, while honoring law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty. Today, the spectacle of over 1000 peace officers on bicycles accompanied by Harley-Davidson® motorcycle police escorts arriving en masse in D.C. brings tears to the eyes of the many family and friends of the fallen who gather to witness this event.
The mission of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) is to permanently record and appropriately commemorate the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers. The Fund also provides information that helps promote law enforcement safety.
The NLEOMF maintains the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, which contains the names of approximately 18,000 law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty, dating back to the first recorded death in 1792. The Memorial is visited by more than 300,000 people annually. The three-acre site is located in historic Judiciary Square in Washington, D.C.
More recently, the NLEOMF is leading the effort to build the first-ever National Law Enforcement Museum, a living tribute to America’s peace officers. The Museum, which will be located next to the Memorial, is scheduled to open in 2011.
