HEAVY DUTY Issue 96 January/Februaru 2008 

Roll up, roll up and welcome one and all to issue 96, our first edition for 2008. The sun is shining, the Aussies are bouncing India in the second test and roads all over Australia are beckoning us to go for a long ride! But before you do make sure you get a look at our two cover/poster bikes. The Kustom King is A drop dead beautiful bobber built by local bloke, Dylan Robb, from Warrnambool in Victoria. It is his first ever build and features a '67 genny Shovel rebuilt by Dylan and slotted into a late model Attitude rigid frame. The bike features a heap of one-off parts, many of them re-cycled from other bikes. Like the suicide shifter, which is one half of a Shovelhead sissy bar! This bike is an absolute heart breaker and when you realise that Dylan designed, fabbed and painted the whole thing himself then you realise that this guy is gonna go places. Oh, he tooled the leather seat as well!


Our other feature bike, 'Slither' is an outrageous Big Bear Choppers Athena model, constructed by local Melbourne builder, Digga. The Athena is an unusual model in that BBC only made a handful of them and only one ended up here in Aussie. Digga is no stranger to choppers and we have featured his bikes in HD before but Slither is a whole new ballgame. It measures 11.5 feet long and has a Mat Egan reptile paint job that will make you believe this bike is alive. Slither is powered by a hotted up S&S 124 motor with twin carbs and it most certainly doesn't 'slither' in the acceleration department. A magnificent bike, well worthy of its place in this issue!

We also road test the new 2008 Road King and Road Glide. Both bikes got a rave review from our staffers and are a well kept secret in the new H-D range. Doc updates his Orange Betty series and we take a look at a genuine world champion Panhead salt racer. How does 156 mph sound? Plus, there is a feature on Branko's award winning '57 Panhead, two beautiful Street Fatboys and the West Coast Choppers bobber twins from the Grindhouse movie. As well as plenty of full blown, up front choppers.
